The Stub Stewart Trail Challenge

One course. Four distances. One decision you don't have to make until race day.

Located in L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in Buxton, Oregon, less than 45 minutes from Portland, the Stub Stewart Trail Challenge is built around a scenic and challenging 6.5-mile loop, giving you the freedom to decide how far you want to go while you're out on the course. Whether you're aiming for the Quarter Marathon, Half Marathon, Three-Quarter Marathon, or Full Marathon, your race isn't decided until you cross the finish line.

Feeling strong? Keep going for another lap. Dealing with tired legs or unexpected challenges? Finish your current loop with confidence. There are no penalties for changing your goal—your official results simply reflect the distance you complete.

The course is as fun as it is diverse. Each loop takes you through towering Pacific Northwest forests, along the paved Banks-Vernonia State Trail, over gravel roads, and onto winding forest trails with rolling terrain and punchy climbs. By the time you're ready for a change of scenery, the course delivers exactly that, making every lap feel fresh and engaging.

Whether you're tackling your very first trail race, chasing a new distance, or looking for a fun day on the trails, the Stub Stewart Trail Challenge lets you make race day your own.

To make things even more exciting, the coveted Bivouac Golden Trucker Hats are awarded to the top male and female finishers in every distance, giving runners of all abilities something to race for.
